what we do
Enriching the lives of people in Zambia
Social Enterprises
PLAEP runs a social enterprise in Kitwe, Zambia to promote the wellbeing of poorly resourced low–income communities through agribusiness value chains that drive small holder farmers’ products to markets. Currently we are processing dried cassava tubers for cassava meal under the brand name, Sanshako Cassava Meal.
Education Support
Improving school access and quality of education amongst children receiving education support through PLAEP: Through access to quality education Children are empowered with the requisite lifelong knowledge and skills that enhances their access to opportunities and income which invariably reduces poverty.
Environmental sustainability
Zambia’s National access to electricity averages at 31% with 67% of the urban and 4% of the rural population having access to power. Through PLAEP and innovative projects like Light my Church Light my Villages (LICLIV), first launched in January 2019, we work to combat energy poverty and climate change, providing rural communities on the Copperbelt Province with economic opportunity and clean energy solutions that work until no one is left in the dark.
Household Economic Strengthening
Formation of community savings and lending group using the Grassroots building Our Wealth (GROW) Self Help Groups(SHGs) model. SHGs are groups of not more than 30 people derived from poor households who have a common background, are facing similar financial constraints and are interested in improving their incomes. This model harnesses the practices of group savings in a way that requires no outside capital, only a lockable metal cash box, financial recording books, three keys and basic financial training.
Health Initiatives
Facilitating early antenatal care for pregnant women and adolescents for the elimination of infant and maternal mortality: The project aims at preventing HIV infections among women of reproductive age (15–49 years), preventing unwanted pregnancies among women living with HIV, and providing women living with HIV access to lifelong ART to maintain their health and prevent transmission during pregnancy, labour, and breastfeeding.
